RAF Typhoon FGR4s have operated alongside France's air force in a joint strike on an hidden munitions depot in Syrian territory used by the Islamic State group (IS), according to the UK's MoD.
The location, pinpointed through surveillance, was assessed as housing weapons and explosive materials, the statement said, and was located in mountainous terrain just above the ancient city of Palmyra in central Syria.
"Our fighter planes used Paveway IV guided bombs to hit a series of entry passages down to the depot... early reports indicate the strike was effective," the MoD said.
There was no indication of any harm to civilians in the strike late on Saturday and all the aircraft returned to base without incident, the ministry further stated.
The British jets were assisted by a Voyager aerial refuelling aircraft.
Daesh - also known as Daesh - enforced militant control over significant areas in Syria and Iraq prior to its 2019 collapse.
"This strike demonstrates our UK leadership, and determination to operate in unison with our allies, to stamp out any revival of IS and their violent and radical beliefs in the region," Britain's Defence Chief John Healey said.
UK warplanes have performed patrols over Syria to "deter any attempted comeback" of IS after its military defeat at the Baghuz confrontation in 2019, the ministry said.
"I must thank all the members of the UK armed forces involved in this mission for their professionalism and their valour," the Defence Secretary added. "Including them were numerous British personnel stationed over the festive period. This mission, to take out terrorist threats who threaten our security, demonstrates how our armed forces are prepared to act, throughout the year, protecting the UK within its borders and powerful internationally."
In December, the US military executed what it termed a "large-scale strike" targeting Daesh sites in Syria, after an attack resulted in the deaths of two US servicemembers and a civilian linguist in the Palmyra area.
The U.N. says IS still has an estimated 5,000 to 7,000 combatants in both countries.
