We'll Crown the Best Title of the Console Generation: Final Four
These last 48 hours have been incredibly eventful. On Monday, we marked the half-decade milestone of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X with a tournament to determine the top exclusive title of this console generation. We presented eight PS5 games and eight Xbox Series X exclusives to face off against each other, all heading towards a final showdown where the top game from each console would go head-to-head. There have been some incredibly close calls in the first two rounds, particularly the extremely tight polls from the previous day. Now, it's moment to decide the best PS5 and Xbox Series X games ahead of the championship on Thursday.
The PS5 Side
On the PS5 side, we have the giant-slayer, Astro Bot. Maybe it should be no surprise given that it took home the top prize at last year’s Game Awards, but its win against God of War Ragnarök feels like a true upset. However, to reach the championship, it'll need to defeat the MVP of the PS5 generation: Insomniac Games. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 enjoyed an easy journey to the semi-finals, defeating Ghost of Yōtei and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart (another title from the same studio!) to land in the final four. Will Spider-Man defeat a beloved PlayStation icon, or is he destined to become a chibi cameo in the next Astro Bot game?
The Xbox Series X Side
For Xbox Series X has been even juicier. Coming out on top from a more eclectic field of competitors is Forza Horizon 5. It's a significant win for the racing adventure title already, proving that a niche category title earns to be on the equal footing as classic platformers and story-driven epics. Its final obstacle on the way to the finals is a major challenge, though. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has proven to be a fan favorite, defeating critical darlings like Pentiment and Hi-Fi Rush. Can it beat a larger-scale title from an well-known franchise that's synonymous with Xbox itself? If anyone can pull that off, it's probably Indy.
